ALTARVIOLET

Cinematic songs for wild hearts. Story-driven. Rooted and raw.

I’m currently writing a new album, returning to my singer-songwriter roots. These songs are intimate, emotional, and meant to be experienced up close, in the room, and in real time.

This new record is a homecoming.

After years of exploring electronic and cinematic soundscapes, I’ve come back to the core of how I first fell in love with music: piano, voice, and honest songwriting. These songs are quieter, bolder, and more personal.

This album is still unfolding, and I’m inviting you into the process.

The Album I’m Writing Now

Who Is ALTARVIOLET?

ALTARVIOLET is the recording and songwriting project of Greta Hotmer, a lifelong musician and songwriter whose work bridges cinematic atmosphere and emotional intimacy.

Her current work marks a return to her singer-songwriter roots, centered on piano, voice, and storytelling. These songs are stripped down, emotionally present, and written with live performance in mind, while still carrying the depth and cinematic edge that has defined her sound throughout every era.

Previous releases explored dark pop, electronic, and cinematic synth landscapes, drawing inspiration from artists like Nine Inch Nails, Phantogram, and Tori Amos. Across all styles, the throughline has remained the same: emotionally honest music created to move people, both inward and outward.

Greta began her career in the indie rock scene as the lead singer and songwriter of The Moxy and later Leo Moon. Her work has been featured in film projects including Where the #$&% Is Santa?, and she has collaborated with artists such as Jess Margera and Neil Fallon of CLUTCH. She has shared the stage with acts including Young the Giant, The Sounds, CKY, INNERPARTYSYSTEM, The Color Fred, and Kill Hannah.

In addition to her artist work, Greta composes music for film and television, specializing in emotionally driven, cinematic pieces that support narrative and visual storytelling.

Music for Film, TV & Trailers

In addition to my original songs, I create cinematic, emotionally resonant music for film, television, and trailer placement. Styles range from intimate piano-led songs to atmospheric, tension-building compositions designed to support story and mood.
